Tuesday, the 14th was my first day on set of the local feature film I was doing hair and makeup for. After spending the night over at my parents with Sofie, I got ready to go in the morning to start my first day.
I was excited to be working on a new project, and this is one of the biggest productions I’ve worked on so far.
Snapped a photo of Sofia before leaving in the morning; still in her pj’s looking as adorable as ever. I was really going to miss her while I was working (and I did)!
I’m finally back! I know that I’ve been MIA for the past few weeks but I have a good reason! I’ve been working as the key makeup and hair artist for a local independent feature film and I’ve barely seen the inside of my house!
Now that I’m more behind than EVER, it’s time to work on catching up, as always.
I only have a moment to post one, before I head out, but see this as a teaser, and the rest will come very soon!
Last Monday, I drove over to my parent’s house to drop Sofie off for the rest of the week as I was starting my first day for the film project and had some long days ahead of me. I knew both Jason and I would really miss her but it was for the best that she be with family instead of having to deal with day care.
After arriving at my parents place I spent one last night with Sofie before driving back over to Seattle in the morning to start my shoot. We snapped this photo in the afternoon once we got to my parents house. I love this little outfit!
Yet another busy day on Sunday. Sofia stayed home and spent some quality time with her dad as my beauty company was helping to sponsor a photo shoot networking event in Seattle.
I had a good day doing hair and makeup for models and meeting photographers, as well as promoting my company.
I was definitely excited to go home though. It was a long, hot day, and I just wanted to get some food and spend some time with my little girl as the next week was going to be even busier.
Now that I’ve realized I have left my camera in my car, I will need to finish the photo updates a little later.
It was good to get a little caught up though, I was starting to get anxious.
Saturday was another work day for me again.
After a quick wedding job in Seattle, it was off to a beach wedding celebration for my good friend from high school and his partner.
Sofia was dropped off for the wedding after spending the late morning at her grandma’s house.
It was so nice to spend some time as a family and do some socializing. I really think it’s great for Sofia to meet new people and experience different places with her dad and I.
She did pretty well and had some fun at the beach and park. We were all pretty tired so didn’t stay long, but it was a lovely evening nevertheless.
Sunday was certainly less hectic than the day before, but definitely no less hot! I was great that I got a chance to do a wedding over on my parent’s side at least once for this season. The weather was beautiful, albeit hot, and I got to help another bride get all beautiful and ready to go for her special day.
There’s definitely something to be said about my line of work, you get to be a part of some of the most intimate moments of a person’s life. It’s kind of a strange perspective, especially seeing so many different brides and how they handle their own day differently. It’s pretty interesting, and I’m thankful and lucky to be a part of these moments.
After I finished my job, I ran a few errands then came home for an early dinner. Veggie dogs and baked beans, not bad at all.
Poor Sofie was so tired because she hadn’t napped all day, she fell asleep at the table! After dinner, I got everything packed and ready to go and whisked Sofia away back home to our apartment and daddy.
We took this picture earlier in the day before we left, Sofie was playing in the pool while I was working and got changed once I got home. She insisted on holding the dog’s collars and clothes for the photo.
I had to get up early to drive to a wedding which was about an hour and a half away; even at 6 am it was still about 70 degrees. No joke.
I hardly realized the temperature change because I had been working inside with my bride and her bridesmaids all morning, but the instant I stepped outside of that air conditioned building the humidity and heat hit me like a brick wall. It was sweltering, all I could think about was hope that the bride wouldn’t melt in her dress! She did look absolutely fabulous though, if I say so myself!
Once I got back from my wedding I had to head straight to my studio to meet another bride for a trial session. I think I did pretty great with her as well.
Sofie kept cool in her pool at my parent’s house all day. Lucky her, wish I could have hopped in a pool!
Anyways, after that long, long day I still had to prepare to take a ferry over to my parent’s house for my wedding on Sunday because it was in Poulsbo.
You’d think that after I finished my trial session I would have been home free, but no, I somehow had managed to “lose” my car keys so I was stuck. After about an hour of freaking out, being hungry, thinking I had locked my keys in my trunk and calling Jason and having him bring out his spare keys to me, I still didn’t find my keys. They weren’t in my trunk, not in my car, not anywhere between where I had parked and my studio, which wasn’t very far at all… After some exasperation I checked inside my purse again.
(This is the part where I hit myself in the head, hard)
The keys had slipped into a pocket I didn’t even know had existed until that point, hence the whole not being able to find it part. I felt like an idiot, but all I really wanted to do was get to my parents home and sleep.
I caught the next ferry back over and finally got home around 10pm, from waking up at 5:30 am to going to bed around 11, I pulled a pretty long and eventful day.
I’m just at least glad that I could snuggle up next to Sofie at the end of it all.
Sunday was a slower day, but I still had another wedding to do, so didn’t get too much of a chance to sleep in. It was such a great day for a wedding too. Also, it was Pride weekend, I kind of wish I went to check it out for a bit, but there’s always next year!
After getting home I spent some time organizing the house (my work never stops!). I just don’t know how it ends up getting so messy sometimes, but I enjoy cleaning and organizing (totally ocd) so it isn’t necessarily something I do begrudgingly.
Here’s Sofie from Sunday, look at her in her cute summer clothes; purposely or not, my mom had her in perfect socks for Pride too! 🙂
Saturday was such a long day… I had a traditional Indian wedding to do that day, and since the ceremony started in the early morning, I was up by 2:30, yes AM, to get to the bride’s house by 3:30 to do her hair and makeup. I also had a hair trial that afternoon, then I came back in the evening to change the bride’s look for her evening ceremony. Besides a 1 hour nap in-between clients in the morning, I probably ended up being awake for close to 22 hours that day.
Needless to say, I won’t be doing that again anytime soon. Though I will say, it was worth it to get the unique experience to work on such a special wedding and do something a little out of my comfort zone. (Tune in to my Beauty Blog for updates and photos from that wedding, coming soon!).
Here’s Sofie’s photo from my parent’s house on Saturday. What a little goof ball.
