Episode 9: Finding Connection in Quarantine

I’ll be honest, it’s rough out here y’all. Like many I’ve become caught in the monotonous daily loop with little end in sight. With my daughter home from school for the rest of the year I’ve added the challenge of being mother, teacher and playmate to my list of roles.

Fortunately for me, a creative opportunity fell into my lap not long after the start of quarantine that is helping to keep me busy and sane. My new role as artist relations and curation manager for Art Parlour is helping me flex my skills to bring artists of all mediums together for one of a kind virtual events, and I’m excited to share it with you all.

Art Parlour is not just an opportunity for the PNW creative community to connect, let’s make this a global movement for artists and musicians to collaborate and network!

Episode 7: Side Effects of the Coronavirus

With recent events surrounding Coronavirus in the last few weeks, there’s been an understandable uptick in public anxiety— but unfortunately racism and xenophobia towards Chinese and Asian communities have seen an increase as well. 😒 I say this not to downplay the unending racism that black and brown people have to deal with on the daily, because this is the reality many of my friends face— but I’m here to say that racism in general is NOT OK. So let’s do better. 🤙🏼

It’s important during these uncertain times that we stay safe, but also informed. Spreading misinformation is no help to anyone, and we must all do our part to support our neighbors and community members. A lot of folks are hurting right now and the Seattle economy is being hit hard. COVID-19 isn’t just affecting our physical and mental health, it’s affecting our livelihoods. If you are one of those fortunate enough to be getting paid to work from home, and you are financially able, please do your part to support your local community and businesses. Not to mention, let’s do our best to support all the artists, service industry workers and other freelancers who depend on gigs to pay their bills who are having clients cancel. It’s getting wild out here. 😅

I will do my best to share financial support resources for the local community as I come across them. We’re all in this together y’all, please stay healthy and safe. 🙏🏼❤️

Episode 6: Small Changes for Sustainable Living Pt. 1

Wow February seriously flew by! 😳 I’ve had a lot on my mind lately but I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can be more sustainable and make better choices for our planet and our future. That’s why I’ve decided to start a sub-series of my vlog that talks about small, easy changes we can all make to reduce our environmental impact and dependence on single use plastics! ✨♻️✨ Hope you enjoy my first #SmallChange!

Shoot me a DM if you have any questions or if you have other ideas for sustainable and waste-free living! 💕

P.S. Shouts out to my girl Sylvia Wolf of Sylvnos who will be helping host a #BlackHistoryMonth book swap TOMORROW 2/26 from 7pm at Sugar Hill Seattle along with Nemo Jamilla & Gennette Cordova. If you’re in the city, be sure to check it out and support your local black femmes! 📚

Episode 5: More Self Care + Tucson Recap

Woah! I can’t believe it’s almost half way through February already. 😅 Also, Happy Black History Month!!! It’s been a non-stop couple of weeks but I’ve made it a point to make self-care a priority through it all.

Here’s a quick recap of my Tucson trip and a little more on what I have coming next. ✨ #OnMaiMind

Episode 3: Snowpocalypse 2020 + The Freelance Struggle

Y’all we survived the Snowpocalypse of 2020! 🙏🏼❄️ Being snowed in this week left me a lot of time to think about how I want to shift my mindset from that of scarcity to abundance. This freelance artist grind is truly a lifestyle and I’m committed to making it a success.

How do YOU stay motivated? Tell me in the comments! ❤️

Episode 2: The “Origin Story” + Full Moon Vibes

#TGIF amirite? This week I’m divulging more on my Vlogs “origin story” as well as sharing some thoughts on our first #FullMoon of the year! Do any of you practice any full moon rituals? I’d love to hear!✨🌕✨

Sofia 365: A Year in the Making

This is it.

I’ve finished it.

The culmination of everything I have been working toward for the last year is here.

The reason why I was the “crazy mom” on Facebook that  posted pictures of her daughter every day, it all now (hopefully) makes sense.

Living day by day, sometimes it’s hard to notice the changes of your little one growing, but they happen, and they happen faster than you think.
Sometimes you take it for granted, and once that moment is gone, it’s gone; they will never be this small, or sweet or innocent again, so cherish those moments.

All the hours and time I spent on this project with Sofia  has been condensed into less than 8 minutes of a beautiful, wonderful, transformation.

Every day, every photo, every frustrating moment, every laugh, and every emotion in between had been captured day by day for an entire year.

And this is what it looks like.

Hope you enjoy!

Sofia 365: Day 365!

Sofia 365: Day 365

Sofie’s 2nd birthday went without hardly a hitch last Sunday. Birthday weekend was great overall, my parents Friday, Jason’s family on Saturday, and Sunday was Birthday ZOO Day (photos coming soon)!

I honestly couldn’t believe she was turning 2 already, felt like I just had her yesterday.

This year has been full of so many ups and downs, but my one constant has been Sofie, and her safety, happiness, and growth.

It was a tough year, a learning year, but now, I’ve ended up with the best little girl I could have ever asked for. She’s not a little baby anymore! I have to get used to that…

She’s gonna grow up so darn fast…

Enough words, there will be more to come, so let’s get to some photos!

Hard to believe this will be my very last photo in the series (I’ll still continue to take photos, just not daily)…
Can we recap with some of the highlights of every month from the beginning?

March 2013

It was a long day of birthday celebration and zoo going, the photo was one of the last things we did that night. She was tired, cranky, but I had to get this last one in! Hard to fathom this photo was going to complete my project after a year of work on this… But, I got a smile out of her eventually. 🙂

Sofia 365: Days 339 through 364 – A Month in Review

Sofia 365: 339-364

A Month in Review

Boy, it’s been a while hasn’t it?

After rounding the home stretch this past month, I thought I’d try something different with Sofie’s pictures, and I just ended up waiting.

Maybe to build anticipation, or just laziness on my part, but I held off on posting any of Sofie’s pics from the last month and just waited to compile them and just do a month in review leading up to Sofie’s birthday, and the anniversary of this project. One big bite before dessert.

I know I might sound like a bit of a broken record, but jeez, Sofie has changed so much this year, and even month to month she changes and grows.

Mid February and early march has been full of a lot of work, adventures, chapstick and lipgloss (much of it on Sofie’s face.)

Living with an almost-Two year old child the past month has given me it’s fair share of challenges and frustrations, she’s more demanding and moody, but also more playful, and she’s been growing into her own little “person”. It’s been awesome to watch and be a part of that growth.

I’m saving her very last photo from this project for it’s own post. Her birthday was a certain success, and I can’t wait to share all of our adventures from the weekend.

In the mean time, check out set of photos from the past month leading up to the very, very end. I was also very excited to get my camera back from the repair shop (or at least part of it) so that I could finish off my project with the same “quality” equipment that I started it with. Boy, did I miss my camera…

Anywho… What a month it’s been! Do you have a favorite image from the set? I sure do. 🙂

March Update, Me Rambling, and Sofia 365!

Hi All,

I know it seems I’ve completely dropped off earth the past few weeks, I’ve been super busy, but just wanted to do a quick update since it’s the week leading up to Sofie’s birthday.

Here’s a little of my plan for the culmination of my “Sofia 365” project, as well as what I’ve been up to lately.

Thanks for watching!
